Hi! I’ve bought several Glorious mice now, I wouldn’t say it’s going well. I tended to get in on the first batches by pre-ordering and I can easily forgive problems with those if Glorious supports it, which they did. My memory is fuzzy on it but I started with Model O and then jumped into the Model D pre-order. With Model D, The first batch would click the side button if I gripped it too firmly. Glorious support replaced it and the replacement’s shell was updated to fix the issue.
The thing is, starting with Model D, I think, the buttons on all of them begin to stick eventually. When cold they wouldn’t stick but as I played and the mouse heated up from my hand, the primary button especially began to stick down when clicked. I made a video of it for support and they sent me another which started to do the same thing after an even shorter while. So then they refunded me entirely, which I certainly appreciate. They let me keep both so I disassembled them. The defect is simple.
Under the main two buttons there is a rectangular tower that actuates the switch. At the bottom of these towers there are thin squares of hard clear plastic, maybe polycarbonate. I assume that is to keep the switch from embedding into the softer plastic of the button, it probably improves click feel and sound as well. The problem is how it is attached. Glorious uses a thin double sided tape/film here. My hand is probably average for someone who is 6’1", so maybe larger than whoever tests these mice. The heat from my fingers travels down the button’s plastic, heats the adhesive which then softens and runs to the other side of the harder plastic square, then starts causing it to stick to the switch’s housing when clicked. The longer you hold the button the longer it stays adhered down. Letting the mouse cool by not using it makes it less sticky, but you can still feel the stick once the glue migrates.
The fix is to use isopropyl alcohol to remove the film and it’s gooey adhesive and replace it with something that won’t melt under body heat. I used a super tiny dab of two-part epoxy to attach the little polycarbonate squares into their plastic recess. All the mice were permanently fixed and I really think the click feel was better than new.
Then the O2 come out and I wanted to try it, because of the upgrades it has. I assumed Glorious would have addressed the sticky button problem by this time since I was able to solve it myself so easily. After about 16 months, it’s starting to stick now. The adhesive has migrated again, I assume. Also this Model O2 started to disconnect from USB for a second then reconnect, and the LEDs on it occasionally go back to default but that’s not really what I want to discuss. I switched back to my self-repaired, free because of refund, Model O.
Shout out to Glorious support, as they are the reason I stuck around for the O2 wired.
I would be a candidate to buy ‘Series 2 PRO’ right now but I feel sure they will have the same button glue issue. That’s my feedback. There’s a defect that crossed at least two generations of mice, support wasn’t aware of it. I don’t think people with smaller or cooler hands would cause the adhesive to migrate to the underside of the polycarbonate square so I wonder if Glorious has any testers with big hands.
Is anyone aware if Glorious has revised the design yet? Is anyone aware if any Glorious product testers have big hands? I can’t find other posts about this with a search, how can that be? My hands are not THAT freakishly big, I know people who have bigger hands than me. Maybe my hands are super hot but I used the same lil’ mx518 for a decade without issue and now I feel like I’m doing an RMA yearly.
