Hello there,
I am looking to upgrade my setup and I am really drawn to Glorious keyboards; but I could use some help deciding which model to go for. I have heard great things about the GMMK and its customizability; but I am not sure if that is the best choice for my needs.
I split my time between gaming and work; so I am looking for something that can handle both worlds. I play a lot of FPS games; so response time is important; but I also do a good amount of typing.
I am curious to hear from people who have tried both the GMMK and the GMMK Pro—what is the difference in terms of feel and performance? Is the extra investment in the GMMK Pro worth it if you are not doing hardcore modding?
Also, I have gone through this post; https://gloriousforum.com/t/what-keys-do-you-need-for-gaming-minitab/ which definitely helped me out a lot.
Also; for switches; what would you recommend for someone who wants something tactile but not overly loud?
Thanks in advance for your help and assistance.
Hey @chiravlo welcome to the forum!
You have asked the age old question. While I would love to drop into all the things that I would want and what I believe the best course of action is, I first will need to answer your question with a set of questions to better provide my (completely opinion based) guidance.
Some questions that I believe would help us out:
- What is the price range you would like to stay within?
- Do you go into an office environment (noise consideration) or is that not a concern?
- Do you need portability? And if so, are you willing to have your keyboard weigh more than your work computer (which is my case) and willing to carry it?
- How hardcore are you looking when it comes to gaming (Mechanical switch vs Hall Effect switch consideration)?
- How important is keyboard sound (relates to above as at the moment mech switches sound better in my opinion than HE switches)?
- Do you have a keyboard size you like (65, TKL, full size)?
I am sure I’m missing some questions, but I believe this will help us narrow whatever opinions that many of us on the forum would love to throw at you .
Let us know. And be ready for a potential array of responses.

A few other things that might help with suggestions.
- How much experience do you have with the hobby?
- How much work do you want to put into a board out of the box?
I promise I’m not trying to be rude with the first question. I’ve seen a few people who were new to keyboards get blasted with overly technical responses, and I try to avoid overwhelming people who are fresh to the hobby.
Welcome to the Guild btw @chiravlo!

I would probably just base it off of convenience. Do prefer wired or wireless? Since both keyboards can be customized or modded to your preference.
Also, switches are usually the determining factor (for me) when it comes to work and gaming. I prefer clicky and tactile switches for work, and linear for gaming. I always stick to cherry keycaps for both since it’s the most versatile and comfortable for me.

In regards to switches if you want tactile but quiet I’d try to find a silent tactile - especially if you’re going to use it in a work/office cubicle setting. Tactile you feel a bump as you type, linear switches you get a slight sound but no little bump as you press down.
And in general, depending on your typing style at least a 75% (includes the F row and arrow keys, possibly includes home & end/page up & down keys) is what’d you’d want. If you a number pad/ten key typing when working then at least a 96% board.
If you’re new to the hobby I’d find a budget board (many can be found on ebay or amazon) to start with to see if you like tactile or linear switches. Clicky switches are typically banded in offices because how loud they are.
