I’ve ordered a bunch of stuff from there…a lot of stuff on KBDFans they have there so you don’t have to pay for international shipping
I actually really like MT3 profile, I just don’t use it that often.
Yeah @jzaine7 They have already put my Q8 in the mail, should be here by next Friday the 9th. Divinikey is really quick to process the order and get it sent your way. I’m impressed with them so far. Thanks for the info on them makes waiting a lot easier knowing others have ordered from them with no problems
Ya definitely recommend them!
I bought the Cherry Spellbook Keycaps for my Keychron Q8 just now from Novelkey. Since you mentioned them having a sale @SentientTD, didn’t get that set on sale since they just came out but glad I went and checked Novelkey out before I dropped $150 on the GMK Laser Set.
I have liked the Spellbook Keycap set since I first saw them a little while back so I’m pretty stoked and I think they will fit my Blue Q8 pretty well. If not I can always try the GMK Red Samurai or the Spaces Theme Keycaps and out the Spellbook set on my GMMK Pro or GMMK2. Can’t believe I decided to go with the Blue Q8, don’t really care for other Keeb colors besides black and white but I took a chance with the blue
Now I just got to order my Oil King Switches for the Q8
Beautiful
Debating building the Orange Boy Ergo (finally…); was going to do it last night during my long stream, but felt far too tired and then ended up losing internet. Just not sure which switches or keycaps I want to use for it yet (not that it should matter too much, since millmax hotswap).
Other than that, been watching but no keyboards are really catching my eye enough right to even follow along with (which is a good thing).
Finished up the GMMK2 build for my family member. Her two requests were “make it as pink as possible” and “something with Minnie Mouse on it.”
I nailed both, but man was it a struggle with this board…
I wanted to keep it on the quieter side as well as be comfortable to type on all day and do data entry for her job. Getting the sound right took the most time and included me using Killmat as well as some PE foam behind the number and F-row. The PCB had three layers of tape as well.
Then the stabs…
Oh man, I tried everything to get the stock stabs to work. Shims, clipping and sanding the feet, holee modding them, different wires… Nothing seemed to work. I then picked up a set of plate-mounted stabs from EPOMAKER (bonus: they were pink😉) and they fit PERFECTLY!!
I lubed and filmed some Aurora Pink switches from Wuque Studios and was surprised at how closely they matched the color of the stabs. Also, they are pretty smooth with the factory lube, so I just bag lubed the springs in 105 and threw some switch film from Deskeys in them and they were perfect. I had also applied some switch pads from KBDFans on the PCB to help quiet things down.
Finally, I picked up some ASA profile keycaps from Akko and a Minnie Mouse artisan from a shop on Etsy.
It may not be for everyone, but family builds get extra love and attention, so this one wasn’t going to leave the work bench until it was perfect.
Nice that is 100% I’m sure she is gonna love typing on it. Great job on all the work you put into making it perfect for her
Looking solid! Pics when done please!
This board looks amazing! Nailed the theme. I hope the recipient appreciates how nice the little touches are.
Here is my Keychron Q8 w/ Fox Switches and Space Themed Keycaps. Once the Spellbook Keycaps and Oil Kings arrive I will swap them out. Also the Spellbook Keycap Set has the actual space bars and two B Keys instead of using Shift Keys for the space bar and a random Novelty Key for the extra B like I am with the Outer Space Set
The pictures don’t justify the actual boards color. The blue is really nice looking. The sound profile so far is a little metaly sounding right now. I might think about getting the FR4 Plate for it and seeing if that helps with the sound. There is a lot of give to the board with the gasket mount and I really like how it feel. I had to use one Panda Switch to finish out the build because the Q8 has one extra key then the GMMK2. I am typing on it right now and it is a little strange to type on and you have to get use to not reaching over to hit certain key’s but I am liking it quite a lot so far
You get used to the layout pretty quickly - easily my favorite layout is the Alice/Arisu. And that’s the nice thing about those sets that NovelKeys sells is that the kitting is really nice for the price, unlike GMK sets which typically bundle spacebars as their own kit.
Yeah I absolutely agree about the Keycap set from NovelKeys. Yeah I think I am getting use to it pretty quick, I think the hardest part is the space bars lol
I went with FR4 on my Q1 and it definitely helped the sound profile out. I have FR4 on one of my GMMK Pros and POM on the other, and like both for different reasons. That’s what I love about this hobby is all of the different options you can tune a board to sound good to you!
Absolutely. I am also thinking I will try some Durock 0.5mm Switch Pads before I try the FR4 plate then I will try the FR4 plate with and without switch pads and see what I think sounds better
I have used switch pads in all of my builds. If you thought filming switches required a steady hand… Oh boy!
Yeah and I always get nervous when I start to pull my keyboard apart lol, gotta keep them hands steady. I have not done any switch filming yet, a few of my next projects are doing my own lube and switch films and also learning how to solder. I also have been watching a lot of video’s on how to build, program and code my own PCB from scratch to build my own keyboard. So I want to learn how to use like KiCad, AutoCad, or Ergogen and really learn how to build a keyboard from the ground up
